Joyce Ann Bodendein, 76, of Reedsburg, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015, at Reedsburg Area Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer, with her loving family by her side.

Joyce was born Jan. 30, 1939, in Reedsburg, to the late Virgil and Mary (Ligman) Hirst. She attended local schools. On May 5, 1962, she married Donald “PeeWee” E. Vosen, who preceded her in death in 1987. On April 28, 1995, she married Edwin Bodendein.

Joyce was a devoted member of Holy Family Catholic Parish in LaValle.



Her grandchildren and children were the greatest joy of her life. Spending time with family was the most important thing she could do. She also especially enjoyed planting all kinds of flowers and seeing the beautiful blooms appear. She loved watching the birds that flocked around her feeders, most especially the bright orioles, bluebirds and hummingbirds.

She was employed in assembly and production for Gerber for 30 years.

Survivors include her husband, Edwin; her children, daughters, Karin (Richard) Mathews of Lake Geneva, Kristi (David) Schmitz of LaValle, Kathy (Ben) Rott of Reedsburg; son, Joseph (Jennifer) Vosen of LaValle; her stepsons. Steve (Mary) Bodendein of Middleton, Mark (Mary) Bodendein of Waterford, Paul (Cindy) Bodendein of LaValle; grandchildren, Lily, J.J., Johnny, Kristi, Kelly and Cortney; step-grandchildren, Patrick, Thomas, Sara, Jordan and Brian; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Helen (Ted) Sazama of Reedsburg, Frances Johnson of Madison; and a brother-in-law, Harold (Joan) Vosen of Arizona; and many nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends, including special friends, Bonnie Bill and Maria Nemitz.



Joyce would want to extend a special heartfelt thank you to all the doctors and nurses who helped her in her fight against cancer. The staff and doctors at the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center, especially Dr. Pipp-Dahm, Dr. Cook, and Dr. Juckett. The amazing staff at the Reedsburg Specialty Center, especially Marsha, Maggie, and Dana, who’s loving care and smiles always made the treatments a little easier to bear. All the nurses and staff at the Reedsburg Ambulatory Care Center, who always took extra special care of her there, and the doctors, nurses and staff at the Reedsburg Area Medical Center, especially Dr. Wenniger and Tammy Koenecke, who all took excellent care of her in her journey from beginning to end.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated for Joyce at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Holy Family Catholic Church in LaValle. Fr. Lorin Bowens officiated. Visitation was held from 3 p.m. until the time of a Rosary prayer service at 7 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2015, at Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the church. Burial followed services at St. Anthony Cemetery in Germantown.

In Lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to the Carbone Cancer Center, the Reedsburg Area Medical Center, or Holy Family Catholic Church in LaValle.
