He graduated from the Reedsburg High School with the class of 1914, and from the LaCrosse Business College in 1915, choosing as his profession that of bookkeeping. He enlisted in the World War in Dakota where he was then living, receiving his call to go to Camp Dodge, Iowa where he served for about six weeks. On account of poor health he was not allowed to go across, a fact he very much lamented, but was sent to Racine, Wisconsin and given a government position which he held until the close of the war when he received his discharge. He never being very robust, his health began to fail him and he had to give up his work and return home. He died January 1st, 1926, aged 34 years, 3 months and 28 days. He leaves to mourn their loss, his parents, two brothers, Virgil and Albert of Winfield, one sister, Mrs. Paul Halbersleben of Beloit, Wisconsin and a host of relatives and friends. The funeral was conducted at the Methodist Church, Sunday, January 3 at 1 p. m. by Rev. Thos. B. Beavin. The service of song was rendered by Mrs. T. S. Beavin and Miss Mae McIntosh. A retired Winfield farmer, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Reedsburg. Surviving are his wife Hazel; two daughters, Mrs. Bernard Fisher, Anoka, MN, and Mrs. Harold Richert, Choteau, MT; a sister, Mrs. Paul Halvensleben, Beloit; nine grandchildren .
