Hirst, 83, Reedsburg died Wednesday, September 2, 1998 in the Edward Snyder Nursing Home. He was born July 24, 1915 in the Town of Winfield, Sauk County, the son of Leslie and Alice (Hawes) Hirst. On November 2, 1939 he was united in marriage to the former Florence E. Rhinehart. He was a lifelong area farmer until his retirement. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and a life member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He was an avid fisherman. Survivors include: his wife; three children Beverly Hirst, Merrillan, Bernard (Agnes) Hirst, Reedsburg and Brenda (Michael) Hendricks, Lyndon Station; five grandchildren Connie, Kevin, Stephanie, Leslie and Lucas; three great-grandchildren Trevor, Ashley and Colin; one sister Rosella Ramberg, Verona; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother Melbourne Hirst. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4 at the United Methodist Church, Reedsburg with Rev. Scott Walters officiating. Interment was in the Butterfield Cemetery. The family received friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hoof Funeral Home, Reedsburg. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.
