Francis A. Hirst, 83, Reedsburg died Wednesday, September 2, 1998 in the Edward Snyder Nursing Home. He was born July 24, 1915 in the Town of Winfield, Sauk County, the son of Leslie and Alice (Hawes) Hirst. On November 2, 1939 he was united in marriage to the former Florence E. Rhinehart. He was a lifelong area farmer until his retirement. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and a life member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include: his wife; three children Beverly Hirst, Merrillan, Bernard (Agnes) Hirst, Reedsburg and Brenda (Michael) Hendricks, Lyndon Station; five grandchildren Connie, Kevin, Stephanie, Leslie and Lucas; three great-grandchildren Trevor, Ashley and Colin; one sister Rosella Ramberg, Verona; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother Melbourne Hirst.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4 at the United Methodist Church, Reedsburg with Rev. Scott Walters officiating. Interment was in the Butterfield Cemetery. The family received friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hoof Funeral Home, Reedsburg.

Melbourne C. Hirst, 67, Reedsburg, died on Sunday, September 27, 1987 at his home after a short illness. He was born on June 19, 1920, in Lyndon Station, the son of Leslie and Alice (Hawes) Hirst. On December 21, 1946, he was married to the former Grace Coolidge in Reedsburg, where they made their home for the past 40 years. Melbourne worked at Hankscraft for 31 years, before retiring in 1985. He was a longtime member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Baraboo and a charter member of the Reedsburg Community Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his wife, Grace; three sons, Donald (Marge), Baraboo, David (Sue), Morrisonville, Milton (Pam), Denver, CO; two daughters, Esther (Richard) Helley, Reedsburg, Kathy (William) Moe, Wichita, KS; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Francis, Reedsburg; one sister, Rosella Ramburg, Verona; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Dawn Marie Hirst, in 1975.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, at the First Church of the Nazarene, Baraboo, with Rev. Daniel Wiese and Rev. Leonard Budd officiating. Interment was in Walnut Hill cemetery, Baraboo. The family received friends after 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the Hammer Funeral Home. In liew of flowers, memorials would be appreciated.
